My name is Flora Ritman, I am a native of Holland, where I graduated in floral art techniques.
I have lived in Menorca since the late 80s and have more than 40 years of experience in the world of floral decoration.
This includes working for several companies, freelance and also with my own flower shop.
In the 90s I collaborated with the Dutch flower council in courses and professional fairs throughout the country. I have also done numerous exhibitions, classes and demonstrations of floral art.
In search of a more environmentally friendly way of working, I began developing an artisanal product based on gourds.
I grow them ecologically and after a process of air drying them naturally, I elaborate them in my workshop, in es Molí de Baix.
The Barranc d’Algendar counts on a variety of legends, histories and elements of rural architecture; a direct legacy from the Arab occupation of Menorca. This period saw the construction of a myriad of earth terraces and water canals which allowed for the development of market gardens and the planting of extensive orchards. The remains of this are still visible in the ravine of Algendar.
The small family business “Es Moli de Baix” currently cultivates in its market gardens and orchards a variety of ecologicaly grown fruits and vegetables, including gourds, citric fruits and avocados, caring for the preservation and environmental improvement, as well as the conservation of rural architectural heritage.
